Xperience cell site validation solution allows Telefonica to improve operational efficiency and processes with GSM, UMTS and LTE network roll-out partners.

Munich, April 2018.

Telefonica Germany has implemented XCellSite from Streambow to perform site validation and acceptance tests of the Germany-wide consolidation of the UMTS and GSM networks of O2 and former E-Plus and on its LTE network expansion.

“We are consolidating and optimizing hundreds of transmitter sites per month”, Georg GroßeBoes, Head of Access Network Planning, said. “As many service providers do, we outsourced this task to subcontractors. In the past they had to use a manual process to test a site after integration. The test results were documented manually and then uploaded to the Telefónica documentation system. With the XCellSite system we are getting test results much faster and at the same time we reduce the risk of errors during testing and during test documentation.”

“Streambows´ XCellSite solution allows us to automate site validation and acceptance processes in the most efficient way. Based on the generic Xperience platform Streambow was able to setup a system tailored to our needs.”

Now each technician uses a specially configured smartphone device to run guided test steps, one by one, testing each frequency and sector for the different technologies on a transmitter site. Accurate network data on the phone is aligned with Telefonica’s radio network rollout cycles. Each test consists of download and upload speeds, latency, outgoing and emergency call tests to the fire and police departments. In 4G, calls are tested using VoLTE technology.

“With the XCellSite solution we now have a guided and integrated system for the tests based on the XCellSite App: When the technician appears at the mobile site, all data required for his tests is already available in XCellSite. The technician is then guided through the testing process by the app. Directly after the test is finished, results are uploaded in real time to the Streambow cloud and are then available for Telefónica.”

“Now we can check the network consolidation quality on a daily basis and we are able to react to network issues immediately”, Benjamin Stetter, Telefónica Project Manager for the introduction of XCellSite, said.

The flexible architecture easily allows for the implementation of new test scenarios and operational processes.
